Says Willow, “I am a self taught photographer and have been learning this craft for the last 6 years. As a child, my parents always encouraged me in whatever I chose to do.  I love  going to photography workshops (where it’s sunny if possible!) and I want to continue to grow and progress as an artist and business owner every day! In 2007 I moved into my first studio space in the Dome District. In 2009 I started a shared studio space for photographers. Since moving into our new space, the collective has been named Image Crew. I love my studio mates like brothers and sisters!  Life is good baby, LIFE IS GOOD!!”

March 2, 2010 SPPA meeting announced

February 28, 2010

Marketing that works for today’s clients
This month’s guest speaker is our very own SPPA member, Nancy Treder who will share some marketing methods to inspire us with planning, creating and executing some simple marketing campaigns to get clients walking into your studio and sitting in front of your camera.

“Now more than ever, it is up to us to employ basic marketing techniques to stay afloat and succeed in an over saturated market. We must inform our warm market that we are here and that we can fulfill their need to preserve their family and personal histories. In a sea of photographers we must differentiate our work and marketing techniques from the thousands of “digital Debbies” out there who are our competition because we let them get away with it. The time for waiting for the phone to ring has passed. The time for passive marketing is long gone. Now is the time for all good photographers to take their message to the people; where they live, work and play.” Nancy Treder

How to photograph new-borns

September 16, 2009

SPPA meeting on Tuesday, October 6th, 2009 at Otto Miller Hall on the SPU Campus. Doors open at 6pm – Program starts at 7pm

Vicki Zoller of Bouncing Light Photography, will discuss with us her bag of tricks from setting the right room temperature to using “photo sacks” with newborns. Vicki will also show her posing techniques and her super quick moves when changing holding positions for Mom and Dad.

At the end of the meeting, Vicki will share with us a slide show of the work of Puget Sound photographers (including members of SPPA) giving back by volunteering for NILMDTS – Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep – a national nonprofit providing families with a remembrance of their newborns who cannot or have not survived birth. Vicki is one of several area coordinators who work with the hospitals to place photographers with families that wish to have a portrait of their child. New born babies are both a joy and challenge to photograph and the more you know the better your success. Bring an associate (first visit is free!) and watch Vicki work with her traveling newborn “baby”.
